How Can I Get Better Results From Social Media Marketing?

Video
Here are some of the common questions we receive:
What’s the best time of day to post to blogs or social networks - and why? This is actually a VERY tough question to answer because it truly depends on the business, and who your target audiences are. You have to think about who you are speaking to in all of the work you do, and when THEY are available much more so than the specific channel. At Dream Local Digital, we monitor best practices, engagement and results of all of the content we post on these channels, and while we see patterns in some cities, they are different in others. And we see patterns with specific general audience types (busy moms, for example). There are no hard and fast rules here. The key is to monitor your post activity and engagement, test new timing, and see what performs the best.

The Silent Killer

As I write and compose this post, the world has just learned the news concerning the death of one of our comic genius's, Robin Williams. Robin struggled with depression for many years and in addition, dealt with physical ailments and substance addictions. While he was publicly open regarding his battle with depression, none of us, his closest family included, knew how bad it was until he saw no other way out. Robin chose to take his own life as a way of escaping what seemed like insurmountable problems. Sadly, it wasn't his heart or the drugs that ended his life, it was the depression that killed him.

Marketing Needs More Introverts

This article is pretty cool / interesting and describes why marketing needs more introverts -- as opposed to the extroverts more commonly associated with that business sector. The central reason should be logical to most people working in the modern world for an organization that ultimately sells some type of service: there are a lot of options out there in almost every industry, and perhaps it's now more important to listen (to your potential consumers) than to lead the charge ahead. Introverts are, by nature, probably a little bit better at listening. This plays into issues of humility in the workplace and the shifting marketing funnel (people don't come in to the sales process the way they used to). Here's an example from the author of the main HBR article:

Is "marketing" really the reason your product isn't selling?

I recently had an interesting conversation with a very smart business professional who claimed the reason the products in her company weren't selling was that there was no "marketing." By "marketing," what she really meant was "advertising," a common misconception. So, I agreed with her immediately. It has to be the marketing. But, what aspect of the marketing plan is not working? Is it really the "promotion," "marketing communications," or "publicity"?
